Dermott 'The Kid' Brereton launched his highly successful football career with the Hawthorn Football Club in 1982, kicking five goals in his first senior match. He played in eight grand finals, and won five premierships with Hawthorn during his 189-game career. His attack on the ball was a trademark of his game, while his physical approach helped create one of the most intimidating forward structures of the late eighties and early nineties. Brereton was much loved by fans, but his flamboyancy and high profile infuriated rivals. One of the game's greatest centre half-forwards, Brereton booted 427 goals in a stunning career, which ended with brief stints at Sydney and Collingwood.

His regular appearances on Channel 9's In Melbourne Today (now Ernie and Denise), Wide World of Sports and The Footy Show have made him one of Australia's most popular sports commentators. Dermott has also published two books: Hooked on Football and Dermott Brereton's 101 Favourite Stories.
