Media Release: ASB contributes 5% of all profits to Sophie's Day of Difference Foundation
Australian Speakers Bureau ("ASB") is proud to announce we are contributing 5% of all profits to Sophie's Day of Difference Foundation.

Patrick saw Ron and Carolyn speak earlier in 2007. Patrick had been touched when both accidents happened to Sophie. Pat's Daughter Emily is the same age as Sophie so it really hit home. ASB asks you to read further about the Day of Difference Foundation and please consider supporting this great cause at Day of Difference.
The Day of Difference Foundation is a paediatric charity established to provide funding for specialised medical treatment, ongoing medical research, outpatient rehabilitation and education in the community.
From our original charter to enhance the journey experienced by paediatric burns patients and their carers, The Day of Difference Foundation has broadened its scope and activities to provide funding to organisations that assist children and their families in the areas of:
Intensive care, Emergency departments, Specialist Medical Research and development. Community awareness and education in relation to people with "difference".
Citizen Advocacy
I am proud to tell you about Citizen Advocacy. Nearly 7 years ago, I volunteered to become an Advocate for my Protege Dennis. What are an Advocate and a Protege you ask?
Advocates do not need special qualifications, experience or indeed prior involvement with people with disabilities. They do, however, need to believe strongly in the right and need of people with intellectual disability to be treated with dignity and respect. They need to be prepared to enter into a long-term relationship, where they will be diligent in safeguarding the well being of the person with intellectual disability and wherever and whenever necessary, speak up and take action on their behalf.
Citizen Advocacy seeks out people with an intellectual disability living in institutions, hostels or in the community, who have no family and are therefore particularly at risk. They then carefully match them, one to one, with a principled, caring citizen, who freely commits to a long-term relationship, in which they undertake to act as friend and spokesperson or "Advocate" for the person with the disability, (who we call the "Protege" - from the French word meaning to protect.)
Dennis has just turned 64 and looks like he has not even yet reached 50. Dennis is very active and fit. Just some of the things myself and my family have done with Dennis are attend footy games (West Coast Eagles and East Perth Royals are Dennis' favourites!), go to the beach, bike ride, play at the park, go to the movies, and walk around downtown Perth along with many other experiences.
My family and I have such wonderful memories of our times with Dennis. My 8 year old Daughter Emily and 5 year old Son Aidan love doing things with Dennis and we all consider him our friend firstly.
Please visit the Citizen Advocacy website. The following is the local link for Perth's office. Janine, Dianne and Rosalind are fabulous. If you contact this office
Citizen Advocacy they will be able to put you in touch with their other offices around the country.
