Peter Fitzpatrick

Peter Fitzpatrick is widely respected and recognized for the outstanding contributions made during his professional life at the helm of two peak bodies as the Chief Executive Officer for the legal profession and the motor industry. Prior to this Peter had a distinguished 20 year military career, including service with the elite Special Air Service (SASR) Regiment as an Australian Army Officer, taking early retirement with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Possessing a well documented and enviable record in commercial performance built on a platform of a commitment to excellence and leadership, he has also made an extraordinary contribution to government and community organizations both in a professional and voluntary capacity, participating in such areas as tax reform, environmental issues, corporate governance education, veteran’s affairs, youth training, traineeship and apprenticeship reform, cancer research, Indigenous youth education and disadvantaged youth. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June 1984 and was selected as a finalist for Senior Australian of the Year in 2009.

Peter is in constant demand as a speaker, delivering inspirational presentations to audiences of CEOs, major industry and business associations and corporations. Possessing a proven ability to engage people in his vision to leave the world a better place and such is his positive reputation in industry, companies and organizations Peter has delivered keynote presentations on diverse topics such as climate change, the impact of global warming, globalisation and oil, sustainability in the 21st Century and has conducted seminars and in-house workshops in Strategic Planning, Leadership, Corporate Governance and Ethics, Personal Growth, Company Board Performance, Communication and Teamwork. He challenges his audience, and encourages them to take a visionary approach to complex business, social and personal issues.

Using humour, passion and enthusiasm, Peter draws on his experiences first from his time in a Jesuit monastery which he credits for instilling self discipline, mental toughness, a sense of justice and fairness, the gift of service and community and for developing his lifelong passion for analytical thinking and reasoned argument to resolve major issues. He also draws on his outstanding career as a military officer, including his service with the SAS Regiment in Vietnam and as Commanding Officer of a major Communications Regiment followed by 20 years as a CEO of key industry and professional organisations to inspire his audience and galvanise them into action instead of sitting on the sidelines when important changes are required.

Currently he is the Chairman of a group of high performing CEOs that are committed to leading profitable and effective organizations whilst maintaining balanced personal lives. He is also the Chairman of a significant overseas sustainable development program.

As a highly experienced Chairman, board member and facilitator for industry and community, Peter’s philosophy and insights include his strong view that leaders are change agents who define the culture of organizations and are committed to action rather than status or position.
