Laurie Dexter made history as a member of the Soviet-Canadian Polar Bridge Expedition that skied across the ever shifting ice of the Polar Ocean Russia to Canada via the North Pole. He is now planning a crossing of Antarctica, hoping to be the first person to complete both the Trans-Arctic and Trans-Antarctic traverse.
For most of his life Laurie has lived in ttle Northwest Territories of Canada where he has learned the survival skills and language of the Inuit. He has climbed many Artic mountains and taken part in a variety of demanding expeditions. He is also an ultra-runner. In addition to over so standard marathons, he has run 10 marathons in Czechoslovakia, the World 100 km Championship in Belgium, the 87 km comrades race in South Africa, the hills Nanisivik double marathon 16 times. A 903 km race in a 94 hours, and over 600 km in 6 days in New York.
In recoqnition of his accomplishments, Laurie has received the Order of Canada, the Soviet Order of Friendship of Nations, the Kurt Hahn Outward Bound Association Award, and the International Pierre de Coubertin Fair Play Trophy UNESCO.
