Layne Beachley epitomises the traditional Aussie Girl Next Door. Layne calls Sydney’s Dee Why home and when she’s not touring the professional surfing circuit she can be found at her “office” on the beach.

Thirty year old Layne achieved the amazing feat of winning her fifth World Crown in December 2002. Number five establishes Layne as this country’s most successful surfer, man or woman. No one woman has done more for surfing’s girl movement than Layne, who speaks eloquently, and at times, forcefully for the cause.

Layne has now surpassed her idol, Wendy Botha, however her sights are firmly set on continuing her winning form and ensuring she leaves her mark firmly in surfing history.

Layne is determined to continue achieving and, in her her own words, “during that last torment-filled week, I learnt that my biggest challenge comes from within. It’s me. My own mental state”.
