After graduating with honours the University of New South Wales as a Bachelor of Architecture, Matt Carroll started his career in the film industry as Production Assistant on the highly successful television production Skippy. In 1970 he co-produced his first feature Shirley Thompson vs The Aliens with Jim Sharman.

In 1973 he ed the South Australian Film Corporation as co-producer of Sunday Too Far Away.

During the next eight years as Producer for Features and Televison at the South Australian Film Corporation he produced eight theatrical features, three telemovies, several documentaries and a television pilot. His feature film credits as Producer include Storm Boy, Blue Fin, Weekend of Shadows, Money Movers, Breaker Morant, The Club, The Plumber and Freedom.

After ing Network TEN in 1982 as Executive Producer of Network Production and working with its Managing Director, Greg Coote, he was responsible for supervising all the drama and light entertainment for the network's four stations resulting in the production of such television hits as The Dismissal, Carson's Law, Bodyline, Cowra Breakout, Waterfront, Perfect Match, It's a Knockout, The Dunera Boys, The Last Bastion and Return to Eden.

Matt Carroll formed his independent production company, Matt Carroll Films Pty Ltd in 1995. Diana & Me, its first feature film, was released in 1997 and Passion - The Story of Percy Grainger, completed in 1998, was released in July 1999. Matt recently produced a 22 x 1 hour science fiction television series entitled FarScape for Nine Film & Television and the Jim Henson Company.
