Biography

Rachel Sporn is one of the stars of Australian Basketball. Playing for Adelaide Lightning in the WNBL, Rachel has won the WNBL's Most Valuable Player award in 1996 and 1997. Her 1997 season was simply outstanding as she led in scoring (average22 points per game), field goal percentage (56%) and rebounding (186 rebounds).

That same year Rachel was also named in the All Star Five for the sixth time and has claimed victory in five grand finals. Rachel is WNBL's all time leading scorer, and is now in great stead to become Captain of the Australian Opals in the near future. On May 29, 1998, Rachel was drafted to play for the WNBA in the United States for the new expansion team - THE DETROIT SHOCK. This was the fulfilment of a life long dream for Rachel and she has enjoyed making an impact on the international arena.

Rachel aimed to continue to play in Australia's WNBL Summer Season as her main goal still remained to win gold with the Australian Opals at the Sydney 2000Games. Unfortunately for Rachel, her plans for the 1999/2000 WNBL season were hampered by a knee injury she received playing for Detroit in the WNBA. This caused her to miss most of the WNBL season.

Rachel is an experienced radio announcer, having hosted a four hour lives ports programme every Sunday afternoon on 5AA in Adelaide. She has confidence and an energetic personality which has ensured her success as a public spokesperson.

Rachel also often appears as a model for Harris Scarfe retailers, and is available for guest speaking with polished presentation skills.
