Biography

Tim Lane is a legend amongst sporting commentators. He began broadcasting sport on ABC Radio in Launceston in 1973 and transferred to the Melbourne office in 1979. He went on to be a regular member of the ABC's football commentary teams, covering VFL/AFL on Radio and, in earlier times, on TV. In 2001 he chalked up his twentieth Grand Final call.

In 1988/89 he ed the cricket commentary team, covering tests and one day internationals every Australian summer since. He has also covered Australian tours of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and England, as well as broadcasting the thrilling 1999 World Cup victory England. Tim has covered five Olympic Games, beginning in 1984 in Los Angeles, and five Commonwealth Games.
