Ranked No. 28 in Business 2.0 magazine’s 2006 list of “50 People Who Matter,” Chad Hurley and Steve Chen sold YouTube to Google for $1.65 billion in stock. Chad served as CEO of the company until October 2010 and remains an advisor.
Creation: After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Hurley worked at eBay’s PayPal division – where one of his tasks involved designing the original PayPal logo – before collaborating with co-workers Steve Chen and Jawed Karim to create YouTube in 2005. YouTube quickly became one of the web’s fastest-growing sites, and was ranked as the 10th most popular website just a year after its launch. Over 100 million clips are viewed daily on YouTube, with an additional 65,000 new videos uploaded every 24 hours. Today it stands as the world’s third most popular site.
