Profile

A Queenslander through and through, Jillian was born in Mackay in the state’s north before moving to Brisbane to attend high school.

Current work

Professional diversity is key in this dynamic media world – Jillian has focused on building a profile across radio and print in Queensland with regular roles as a presenter on Brisbane radio and contributing to News Limited newspapers and online.

Jillian is also an experienced facilitator, and poised and polished MC, often requested to host business summits, conferences fundraisers and corporate events.

Her extensive experience and high profile is also acknowledged within the Queensland business community – as an owner and director of communications company Media Potential, working with businesses and individuals in media and presentation training and communication workshops.

Surviving more than two decades in a notoriously unpredictable business is a source of pride for Jillian who continues to adapt to this dynamic industry.

Previous experience

Education: Her childhood dream of becoming a writer and reporter was realised soon after graduating from the University of Queensland with a double degree in Journalism. In 1992 Jillian launched her TV career in Channel Seven’s Brisbane newsroom.

Newsreader: In 1996, Jillian made the move to Channel Nine as a reporter and newsreader. She teamed with Bruce Paige in 2001 to present the state’s top rating 6pm news bulletin.

Hosting: After starting a family, Jillian moved to take up hosting the long running Queensland public affairs show Extra in 2006, as well as Nine’s Gold Coast news bulletin.

Travel TV: Jillian returned to Channel Seven in 2009 for the dream role as a presenter with the enormously successful travel show, Queensland Weekender, where she tackled everything from hiking to diving, surfing and horse-riding adventures in the outback. She’s currently a presenter on its sister show The Great Day Out, Queensland’s number one lifestyle show.

Freelance: From 2010, Jillian returned at times to her News roots, presenting Channel Seven’s Queensland bulletin, the national news on Weekend Sunrise, as well as working as a freelance reporter for Sunrise for many years.
