Josh Thomas

Comedy's rising star.

At the age of just 17 Josh Thomas was the youngest ever winner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s RAW Comedy Competition in 2005. He also made the finals of ‘So You Think You’re Funny’, Edinburgh’s equivalent to RAW Comedy.

Current work

He returned to Australia and made his TV debut with not one, but two, stand up spots on ABC TV’s ‘The Sideshow’. Josh also had a busy year honing his skills and performing at professional Comedy Clubs around Australia including Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

In 2006, Josh performed in The Comedy Zone, a showcase of Australia’s best new talent presented by the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He was critically regarded as the highlight of that show. As a result he was asked to perform at the annual Moosehead Award Benefit Night, in front of a 1500 strong crowd at the Melbourne Town Hall. Josh currently runs Livewired, a comedy room in Brisbane’s Powerhouse Centre for the Arts, every Sunday evening. The room is proving to be a big hit with comics and audiences alike.

In the last twelve months Josh has performed on The Comedy Channel’s Stand Up! Australia and supported the likes of Dave Hughes in front of a crowd of 1500. He has been heard on the ABC’s Triple J Breakfast Show, Brisbane’s 612 ABC, Triple M Brisbane and has presented the Triple Z Comedy Show on Saturdays from 5-6pm.

Previous experience

Talent: After only a few short years of performing stand up Josh’s unique talent has the Australian Comedy Industry abuzz. His virginal looks and cutting dialect combine to create a voice that is genuinely distinct and exciting. For a performer so young to have such an honest and developed sense of who he is on stage is quite remarkable.

Festivals:2007 was a cracker year for Josh, picking up the gong for the Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, for his first ever solo show, Please Like Me. This was followed by 6 weeks touring with the Comedy Festival Roadshow and an invitation to perform at the ‘Just for Laughs Festival’ in Montreal in July.
