Matt White is one of Australia’s most versatile and experienced broadcasters with a career spanning over 30 years in television, radio and newspapers.

Matt has hosted and commentated some of the biggest sporting and news events in the world and also held senior management positions in Australian television.

Well-known as a founding face of the popular Sports Tonight program, White is highly respected for covering and commenting on Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Supercars and Formula 1 championships, Australian Open Tennis, US Open Golf, Basketball and Ironman.

White began his journalism career at The Manly Daily Newspaper before moving to radio and joining Newcastle’s NEWFM to present breakfast news. He moved to television in 1992 when he became the weekend sports presenter for NBN News, Newcastle.

Alongside a radio stint at Triple M Sydney, White settled into a role as a sports presenter for the Ten Network in the early 1990s – hosting the Network’s flagship program Sports Tonight from its inception, and gaining recognition as a leading motorsport commentator in Australia with the Network’s Supercars coverage.

White then joined the Seven Network where he remained for the next ten years, hosting the Athens 2004 Olympic Games coverage, the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Australian Tennis Open, Sportsworld and Seven’s Logie award-winning Supercars broadcasts.

He also hosted Today Tonight for four years, The Royal Wedding coverage in 2011, Seven’s 4 pm News alongside Melissa Doyle, and was runner-up in the 2009 Dancing With The Stars series.

In 2014 Matt returned to the Ten Network where he covered the 2014 Commonwealth Games, hosted the Supercars, Rugby and Australian Formula One Grand Prix coverage, as well as the weekly magazine program RPM.

In 2018 Matt was appointed the Head of Sport for the Ten Network and was instrumental in securing the rights of The Melbourne Cup Carnival, which he also hosted.

In September 2020, White announced he was joining 1170 SEN Radio – Sydney’s new home of sport. In 2022 Matt will host his regular morning show on SEN Radio in Sydney ‘Mornings with Matt White’ from Monday to Wednesday and will also head up the SEN Rugby League call team and will lead the commentary team on Stan Sport for the new Speed Series motorsport events.

In 2021, Matt was host of the Swimming Australia Olympic Trials and also host of the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
